Fears of a new section of the wheat silos at Beirut’s port collapsing

Due to the significant acceleration in the pace of bending, more pieces of the wheat silos in the port of Beirut may begin to fall at any moment, according to the nearby sensors.
Today, Sunday, plumes of smoke were seen rising from the shed’s surviving section, which recently fell and was destroyed by the explosion at the Beirut Port on August 4, 2020.

The landfill site was cleared of all personnel, including the fire department and civil defence centres.
When the fire started to burn in the Al-Ahraat neighbourhood a month ago, the army formed a buffer zone there, and nobody is prohibited from entering it.
The army has put all defensive measures in place in the area of the buffer zone, according to Omar Itani, Director General of Beirut Port, who spoke with Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath correspondents.

He assured them that there is no threat in the vicinity of the buffer zone as a result of the actions taken, and that civil defence is ready.
According to press statements made yesterday by the minister of public works and transportation, the northern half tilts right and left, or toward the pit, at an angle of 30 mm per hour and 15-20 mm per hour. The fractured trunks in the southern portions must be located, according to the Captain of Engineers in the North.
