One of those, though, is set to vanish completely.
After years of pressure, tech giant Apple has finally committed to ditching the 2012 lightning port on their upcoming iPhones.
Apple’s Greg Joswiak stated the business would adhere to an EU directive that will require the adoption of USB-C on new devices while speaking at a Wall Street Journal event.
The approach would have been better for the environment and for our clients if a government wasn’t so restrictive, but we have no alternative but to comply, as we do everywhere else with local legislation.
He steadfastly declined to say whether Apple will implement the adjustment before the 2024 legislative change or not.
Most people agree that USB-C offers quicker data transfer rates.
The EU Council acknowledged this week that it had given the “single charger directive” its final approval in a press release.
This means the USB-C port will be consistently required across a whole range of electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets and headphones.
Since most modern devices can share chargers, the change will result in fewer wires for users.
The search for the correct charger can be frustrating and results in over 11,000 tonnes of electronic garbage each year, according to Jozef Skela, Minister of Industry and Trade.
