News from Al-Madinah: According to the Amaq Agency of the extremist group on Telegram, ISIS carried out the violent assault that was directed against a religious site on Wednesday in the city of Shiraz, southern Iran, killing at least 13 people and injuring others.
The incident, which was carried out, according to the agency, “targeted a number of Iranian police and shrine guards” and crowds inside it, killing about 20 people and injuring many more.
Iranian officials have reported that the attack was carried out by a “terrorist” arrested, at a time when Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi pledged to “Hazem’s response” to this operation.
The Fars Governorate Center in Shiraz is one of the most well-known religious sites in southern Iran.
Additionally, video recordings shared by local media on social media depicted bloodstains on the temple campus as well as red-stained garments, shattered glass dispersed on the ground, and the aftermath of a shot to the wall.
Iranian media outlets also published images of persons covered in blood as well as what appeared to be bodies tiled side by side and drawn with white blood.
The attack occurred close to the Maghrib prayer, explained Faris governor Muhammad Hadi Iman.
A film shown by local media revealed that it was from a surveillance camera inside the temple, a young man with a light beard shooting near what is thought to be a corridor at the shrine’s entrance. He kept repeating his weapon.
This attack is one of the bloody attacks in Iran in years.
The attack takes place in the middle of nationwide protests that have been ongoing since September 16, the day Muhsa Amini died after being detained by Tehran’s Ethics Police due to her disregard for the country’s rigorous clothing codes.
