A fresh provocation to China: an American governor visits Taiwan.

The Republican governor of Indiana, Eric Holcomb, arrived in Taiwan on Sunday to strengthen trade ties between his state in the country’s midwest and the island.
For his part, the governor added, “I arrived in Taipei to begin a tour of economic growth in Taiwan and South Korea.” According to Bloomberg, Indiana has ten Taiwanese businesses and twelve South Korean businesses.
As governor, this is my second trip to South Korea.

He stated, “I am honoured to be the first governor to visit Taiwan since the outbreak began.”
Holcomb announced in a tweet that his group will meet with government officials, industry leaders, and academic institutions to form new and strengthen existing ties.

Holcomb’s trip comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and China, following House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s two-day visit to Taiwan as the first speaker of the United States House of Representatives in a quarter-century in early August.
