Fake $100 notes featuring Steve Irwin circulate in NT

Residents in the Northern Territory may be duped by fake $100 bills featuring popular culture figures like Steve “Crocodile Hunter” Irwin and a favourite Home and Away character.
Following their theft from an Alice Springs address on Monday, bogus invoices used in film and television production have been warned to be on the lookout for by business owners.
The $100 bills feature a series of “subtle differences” to authentic cash, Northern Territory Police say.

This involves substituting Sir John Monash and Dame Nellie Melba for a beaming Irwin and actor Ray Meagher, who plays Alf in Home and Away.
John Farnham takes the place of the Shrine of Remembrance on the note, and the word Australia that is written in cursive in the middle is changed to read “Straylia.”
It is unclear how much of the cash was stolen, however fake $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes may be in circulation, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Robert Kent said.

Police advise perhaps quickly reviewing any bills you receive in the coming weeks to ensure you are receiving the genuine article.
