An agreement between Biden and Sonak to support Ukraine and address China

WATERLOO – The British and American interests appear to be uniting in this delicate time in the face of many challenges and dangers, as the White House announced that President Joe Biden and the new British Prime Minister Rishi Sonak had agreed over the phone on Tuesday to work together to support Ukraine and stand up to China.

The two leaders first met hours after Sonak assumed office as the third prime minister of Britain this year, succeeding Liz Terrace, who was toppled by an economic crisis just 49 days after taking office. Sonak was sworn in as Liz Terrace’s replacement.
The two leaders affirmed their “special connection” and their determination to cooperate to advance world security and prosperity, according to a statement from the White House.

The statement also stressed “the need of working together to assist Ukraine and Russia’s accountability for its aggression” with regard to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The White House said that Biden and Sonak also agreed to “face the challenges imposed by China” that Washington today considers the largest geopolitical and economic competitor.

In a phone chat, Biden told Sonak, according to the British Prime Minister, that “the United Kingdom will remain the closest ally” of Washington.
Sonak and Daen “examined the scope of collaboration between the United Kingdom and the United States, both at the bilateral level or in regions akin to the Indian and calm surrounding region,” according to a prior “Dunning Street” statement. They also appeared to have addressed the Northern Ireland problem, according to the statement.

In arming and backing the Ukrainian army to stave off the Russian invasion that began in February, Britain is a significant European ally of the United States.
Ukrainian President Foludmir Zellinski expressed his hope for “strengthening” relations between Ukraine and Britain, which is one of the most prominent countries supporting Kiev in the face of Russia, following a phone conversation with the new British Prime Minister Rishi Sonak.

In a video recording, Zellinski said, “I am convinced that the partnership that has become traditional between our country and the British leadership in defending democracy and freedom will continue and will be strengthened. ”
To arrange a trip to Ukraine, Zelinski called Sonak.

Later, Zellinski announced in a tweet that “he agreed in an excellent conversation with Rishi Sonak to write a new chapter in relations between Ukraine and the United Kingdom, but rather within the same story: full support in the face of Russian aggression. ”
According to a statement from the British Prime Minister, Sonak assured Zelinski of Britain’s “strong” support for Ukraine.

The UK’s support for Ukraine under Sonak will be stronger than ever, and President Zellinski can rely on the ongoing solidarity of his government, according to a spokesman for the British Prime Minister.
