Planken emphasizes to Stoltenberg the necessity of the NATO unit to support Ukraine

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urged the Allies to remain united in their support of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
This was discussed over the phone today between Blinken and NATO Secretary-General Yenos Stoltenberg, according to US State Department spokesperson Ned Price.
Blinken also emphasised the necessity for NATO countries to respond to claims regarding the alleged “dirty bomb” in Ukraine during the call.

In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, a group of 30 liberal Democratic Party representatives in the US House of Representatives urged President Joe Biden to significantly alter his approach to the country’s situation and to continue holding direct talks with Russia. This was the first time that well-known members of his party had pushed him to do so.

At a time when the region is potentially headed for a challenging situation, the group’s message to the White House, which was first published by the Washington Post today, puts additional pressure on Biden while attempting to maintain local support for the military activities.
If the Republicans take back control of Congress, they threaten to stop providing money to Ukraine.

30 democratic lawmakers, lead by Representative Pramela Javal Biden, demanded in the letter that the United States give Ukraine “extraordinary economic and military support” along with “a proactive diplomatic strategy and doubled efforts to seek for a sustainable ceasefire framework.”

Democrats are particularly concerned about the fact that the United States does not regularly communicate with Russia as part of its efforts to put an end to a protracted conflict that has resulted in thousands of deaths and 13 million displaced individuals.
On the grounds that Kiev is a free people who must determine its own destiny, the Biden administration insisted that Kiev should decide whether to negotiate with Moscow and when to do so.

Democrats largely disapproved of the speech, which caused Jiabal to subsequently “clarify” the message by reiterating their support for Ukraine and Biden’s pledge to make sure that Ukraine is represented in any discussions regarding it.

Stoltenberg is reminded by Planken of the importance of the NATO unit in assisting Ukraine.
