Sudan announces state of emergency in six states

In reaction to heavy rains and floods that claimed 80 lives nationwide on Sunday, the Sudanese government declared a state of emergency in six states.
The Cabinet declared an alert and emergency due to flooding and devastation in six states, according to the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA).
The six states are the Nile River (north), Gezira and White Nile (central), West Kordofan, South Darfur (west), and Kassala, according to the organisation (east).

He requested that the Council of Ministers organise official and popular initiatives to enlist domestic and international support as well as aid from official and popular groups in order to lend a helping hand and provide assistance to those affected by the state’s conditions.

The responsible Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Othman Hussein Othman, reportedly announced the opening of an account in local and foreign currencies to collect aid and stand by people affected by the severe rains and flooding in the United States.
In addition to increasing early warning and follow-up measures to avert any harm, Hussein declared that the public and official efforts will be mobilised to help the affected people.

The Sudanese National Council for Civil Defense said that 80 people have died as a result of the rains in a daily update. A significant portion of Sudan is receiving unusually heavy rain, which has caused numerous homes to be destroyed.
Additionally, the UN recently reported that since last June, around 136 000 Sudanese have been hit by extreme rains and torrential rains in various parts of the country.

Every year, from June to October, Sudan experiences extremely heavy rain and flooding.

Six states in Sudan have declared a state of emergency.
