Saskatoon construction season comes to a close as winter approaches

Saskatoon’s construction season is coming to an end since the city has already experienced snowfall and the weather is getting colder.
The city’s 2022 building season, according to Terry Schmidt, general manager of transportation and construction, proceeded smoothly.
This year’s construction season was highly successful, according to Schmidt. The weather cooperated well and provided favourable conditions for building roads and other types of infrastructure.

He said that most of the city’s planned projects could be finished.
This season’s projects included work on water mains, walkways, and significant roads.
Schmidt said that preparations for the 2023 building season have already begun, with some projects having already begun.

Some residents may have noticed we already built a cross-over on the east side of the bridge to accommodate that work so that it can start as early as possible in the 2023 construction season, Schmidt said. “Some of the major works we have underway already will be a resurfacing of the Circle Drive North bridge, both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
After the municipal council approves its 2023 budget in November, he said, further projects might be included.

The city said approximately 24 km of water mains and sanitary sewer mains were replaced or rehabilitated along with an approximate 59 km of sidewalks and curbs.
Schmidt commended Saskatoon motorists for navigating construction zones safely this year and added that it resulted in a secure building season.

As winter approaches, the construction season in Saskatoon draws to an end.
