Austrian Interior Minister: Our country’s asylum system is under enormous strain.

Austria’s interior minister, Gerhard Karner, stated on Sunday that the nation’s asylum system is now dealing with heavy commitments but that it does so in an efficient and flexible manner.
According to Karner, his country has received 41,909 applications for asylum as of July this year, compared to 14,000 during the same time last year. This suggests that the majority of asylum seekers were Syrians and Afghans.

He stated that he is in talks with the governments of the countries where the migration waves originated in an effort to thwart smugglers’ plans and disrupt their operations. He emphasised the significance of strengthening voluntary repatriation agreements and mentioned that 60% of asylum seekers have left the country voluntarily.

The Austrian Interior Minister stated that he wants to stop people from using high inflation rates as a recruiting tool for extremist movements. He also noted that the police are well-equipped to deal with all types of extremist movements, particularly those that originated among groups of Corona deniers.
