The government and parliament of Austria, along with Defense Minister Claudia Tanner, have urged for raising military spending and the budgetary allotments for the armed services.
“There is a need for more efforts to support the national defense,” Tanner said – in her statements today, Tuesday, on the occasion of her country’s celebration tomorrow, Wednesday, on the National Day.
According to a study conducted by the Ministry of Defense in collaboration with the Linz Market Institute, 63% of respondents support an increase in spending on the Federal army and 56% support an increase in the number of soldiers. The minister went on to explain that the overwhelming majority of the population supports the strengthening of the national defence.
She said that the approval rate for the rise in national military budget rose by eight percentage points from the previous year to 63%.
