How can Egypt increase its exports to Africa?

In light of Egypt’s competitive advantage, Fawzi Abdel Galil, a member of the Federation of Egyptian Industries Chamber of Engineering Industries, has called for the expansion of market openings, the creation of ongoing international exhibitions for Egyptian goods in African nations, and for Egypt to receive a fair share of the continent’s imports, which are dominated by Chinese goods.

Given that the cost of delivering Egyptian goods is nearly four times less than that of their Chinese counterparts, whether by land, air, or sea, the commercial agreements it has struck with the bulk of the continent’s countries provide a sizeable sum of money.

It is time for Egypt to take the legitimate position it deserves in the African market, according to Abdel Jalil, who said that while commerce between African nations and China totals 254 billion dollars, trade between African nations and Egypt does not exceed 8 billion dollars.

He emphasised that Egyptian exporters and the Egyptian government have turned their attention to African markets as they work to implement an ambitious plan to increase Egyptian merchandise exports to $100 billion. To this end, the government has issued numerous decisions that encourage exporters, such as subsidising shipping to African markets, a move that will encourage many. A comprehensive plan has been developed to train exporters, with a focus on small exporters and giving them the necessary tools to increase their exports by organising courses related to electronic marketing and pricing of goods, in order to overcome the exporters who are reluctant to export to the markets of the brown continent due to the high cost of shipping.

Abdel-Jalil emphasised the significance of launching international exhibitions on the African continent as well as the creation of logistical centres that contribute to the provision of current goods, which would contribute to increasing exports and creating a competitive advantage for Egyptian products in all markets while also leveraging the significant advantages offered by trade agreements. Through this, Cairo is linked to all African capitals.

The preparation of comprehensive lists of goods in high demand from African consumers, which the Egyptian drug should facilitate, and the provision of more information about the needs of each export market in Africa are two of the most crucial factors, according to a member of the Chamber of Engineering Industries, in increasing Egyptian exports to the African continent.

introducing new companies to the export industry and expanding the scope of the export assistance programme to include new industries like pharmaceuticals, concentrating on markets where Egypt has a competitive advantage, and enhancing the role of small and medium-sized enterprises in the export process.

As part of a bigger plan to increase Egypt’s exports to the continent, he also said that the country will increase such exports to $7 billion this year. Additionally, $10 billion is anticipated in Egyptian exports to Africa by 2025.
