“If you look at night, it is possible” … an Iraqi anger against an activist justified the harassment

One of the guests on a local television station in Iraq has sparked widespread controversy among the Iraqis after its intervention on a program on the issue of harassment.
Many Iraqis charged Nour Al-Baghdadi of defending the practise of harassment when she suggested that the victim’s girl shared some of the fault and wasn’t solely to blame.

The critics transmitted a video clip of the young woman, in which she appeared saying: “If the girl goes out very late, or with uninterrupted dress, she may be subjected to harassment because the Iraqi or eastern man, according to her, is yet unusual on these western traditions. ”
What caused a furor of outrage showed that the harassers typically do not make a distinction between the victims.

“You see the mother of the abaya harassed her, and the mother of the veil harassed her with the clear day,” one of the tweeters said on Twitter. I’m saying, “Before you talk, think.”
According to a commenter who inquired about the commentator’s qualifications, “Nour Al-Baghdadi is already growing up to Hajj? A naive opinion that justifies the harasser.

In addition to calls for the issuance of deterrent legislation, it is noteworthy that Iraq has had a number of harassment episodes over the past several months in a number of governorates.
According to unofficial statistics published by the Iraqi Media Forum last year, 77% of women and girls in the nation experienced direct harassment.
While more than 90% of them asked that legislation be established that would stop the harassers.

The harassment was justified by Iraqis’ indignation toward an activist, who said, “If you look at night, it is conceivable.”
