On Slavery Remembrance Day, Biden reaffirms his commitment to racial fairness.

US President Joe Biden reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving racial equity in the United States.
This was mentioned as part of a White House statement celebrating the establishment of the slave trade in the United States.

More than 400 years ago, 20 enslaved Africans were forcefully carried to the beaches of what would eventually become the United States, and millions more were abducted and sold in the centuries that followed as part of the system of slavery, which he referred to as America’s original sin.

He stated that enslaved men and women, as well as their descendants, contributed countless contributions to the formation of this nation, noting that June 19 was designated as a national holiday last year as the day of slavery’s abolition.

He cautioned that great countries do not hide their past, but rather accept it, whether via successes or tragedies, and that today is the day to reflect on slavery’s enormous losses and his country’s capacity to recover and emerge fiercely from these losses, despite the crimes that transpired.
