A court in Paris obligates the government to use an alternative French designation of English to the health data center

Based on an assessment by the Association for the Defense of Francophone using the French synonym, the French judiciary ordered that the government refrain from using the English name “Health Data Hub” in any communication materials relating to the government health data centre.

The Administrative Court of Paris ruled on October 20 that the Ministry of Health must “withdraw the Heal Hub and its abbreviation from all the means of communication that heads to the French public on the national territory by April 20, 2023,” according to the Agence France-Sunday Presse’s report on the decision.

” The Francophonie Avenir Association (Francophonie Avenir) had submitted a review of the Administrative Court in order to prevent the state from using English expressions such as “Choose France” or “French Tech” or “Franch Tech” or “Franch Impact” ( FRINCH IMPACT) to adhere to the 1994 French Language Defense Law.
As soon as there is a phrase that is synonymous with French, this legislation forbids any public authority from using a “foreign expression or term” in a trademark or a name that establishes it.

The Paris Administrative Court made a remark on the health data centre that each of the three terms in the English designation “Health Data Hap” has been “accredited translated by the French language enrichment committee,” which was then published in the Official Gazette.

The government is required by a Paris court to use a different French designation for the health data centre.
