The Minister of Health in the Blue Nile: 30 thousand were displaced by the fighting

The fiercest round of tribal fighting rounds in the Blue Nile region in southeast Sudan last week led to the displacement of 30,000 people, most of them children and the elderly, according to a senior local official.
In an interview with the Arabic/Al-Hadath today, Monday, Jamal Nasser Al-Sayed, the region’s minister of health, described the tragic nature of the situation and noted that the official death toll had reached 220 killed and 195 injured.

According to him, there have been more than 30,000 people displaced, the most of them are youngsters and the elderly who are housed in schools under subpar humanitarian conditions.
Additionally, he emphasised that these displaced individuals require immediate assistance because their strategic stockpiles of food, medication, and shelter materials had run out. This revealed the continuation of the waves of eviction from the surrounding villages into the city of Al-Rusiris.

He also added that the city of Damazin, which is the current of the area, has a guarded calm that permeates its streets.
It is noteworthy that the Husa and Al-Hamj tribes rekindled their hostilities early last week in the city of Wad Al-Mahi over disagreements over land and tribal leadership inside the civil government.

This wave of fighting followed a previous one between the two tribes that began in mid-July (2022) and resulted in the deaths of 149 people until early October.

Yesterday, after protesters enraged by the burning of a government and security headquarters, Major General Rabie Abdullah was appointed commander of the Blue Nile Military Region, and a high security committee was dispatched to investigate the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Operations, Lieutenant General Ahmed Abdin Al-Shami, and representatives of the other security services to determine and evaluate the situation.

While a committee to investigate the horrific events in the state was announced by the Sudanese Armed Forces. The spokesperson for the armed forces, Nabil Abdullah, explained that the committee is chaired by the Vice -Chief of the Chief of Staff for Operations, Khaled Al -Shami, and includes representatives of the Ministry of Interior and the General Intelligence Service..
