According to a statement from the Pentagon press secretary, Pat Ryder, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasised the significance of increased bilateral contacts with Russia in light of the special military operation in Ukraine.
In a statement posted on the Pentagon website, Defense Minister Lloyd Austin was quoted as saying: “Defense Minister Lloyd Austin spoke on the phone today with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shwigo, who requested the continuation of communication. The Minister of Defense Austin rejected any pretext to the Russian escalation and confirmed again the value of continuous communication” during the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
“Earlier today, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that Shoyo held his second phone call with his American colleague since Friday.
