Saskatchewan NDP leader gives first convention speech since taking the helm

In her first statement as leader of the opposition New Democrats at the annual convention in Saskatoon today, Carla Beck says it’s time to put in the hard work to offer a rival to the ruling Saskatchewan Party.
When Beck took over as leader of the Saskatchewan New Democrats in June after Ryan Meili resigned earlier in the year, she became the first woman chosen to hold the position.

The convention’s slogan is “building to win,” and according to Beck, it marks the launch of the New Democrats’ election campaign, which includes pledges to keep doctors on staff, promote harmony, and grow industry while cutting carbon emissions.
The Saskatchewan Party’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak was attacked by Beck, who also claims that Scott Moe engages in political theatre to support his base.

The Saskatchewan Party, which currently controls the province, has maintained a firm grip despite the fact that the next provincial election is still more than two years away.
Polling has shown the Moe government still has strong support, although they’ve been criticized for their response to health care and inflation..

The leader of the Saskatchewan NDP delivers his first convention speech since gaining office.
