Stoning hope to death raises a whirlwind .. Sudanese protest

After her counsel failed last week to have the sentence of stoning until death handed against her overturned following an appeal to the Supreme Court, the case of the twentieth girl, “Amal,” has once again come to light in Sudan.

Many Sudanese have been debating “stoning” on social media sites recently, despite the fact that the country has not used this penalty in the last 10 years. The judiciary has seen several cases resembling Mary’s, but every time the rulings were overturned on appeal.

But Amal’s luck did not ally, after the Kosti Criminal Court in the White Nile State issued on June 26 (2022) a ruling on the 20 -year -old, for the execution of a stoning after being convicted of violating Article 146 (2) (adultery) of the criminal law, the Penal Code Sudanese 1991, did not accept the appeal request.
What caused the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) to start an online petition a few days ago asking that the young woman’s death be put on hold.

She also highlighted the numerous irregularities that tarnished the case in a statement published on her website, noting that her trial started without an official complaint from the Kosti police.

In addition, she confirmed that the girl was denied legal representation during a stage of the trial despite the guarantees of representation outlined in Article 135 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Law of 1991, which guarantees the right of the defendant to legal representation in any criminal case with a penalty of at least 10 years in prison, amputation, or execution.

She pointed out that since the Kosti Criminal Court’s ruling, the authorities have not submitted the case for approval to the Supreme Court.
A violation of international law that ensures equality before the law and prohibits discrimination based on sex is shown by the fact that the majority of adultery laws in Sudan were imposed against women.

It is interesting that Amal has refused to appeal the decision against her and is still awaiting her fateful outcome despite the controversy.
