East encampment at the Manitoba legislature removed by the province on Saturday.

On Saturday, members of the provincial enforcement team dismantled a protest camp from the Manitoba legislature’s east lawn.
The Winnipeg police were not consulted in order to complete this.
According to Const. Jay Murray, “The Winnipeg Police Service did not have any police present at the encampment on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislative today and were not involved in the evacuation of any individuals or equipment.”

The province claims the camp is illegal and unsafe on the premises of the legislature, and there have been serious security issues over the previous few months, which is why it was removed.
Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen issued a statement saying, “Our government fully supports the right to legal protests.” The Manitoba Legislature ought to always be a venue for democratic discourse.

But these must be carried out in a way that ensures the security of everyone who visits the legislature, including schoolchildren, visitors on tours, staff members, elected officials, dignitaries, and protesters.
The east camp at the legislature was the last camp to go, and the grounds are now free.
Goertzen expressed his gratitude to everyone who took part in the operation today, including the members of the Legislature Security team, Central Services, and Conservation Officers.

“Over the past many months, they have exhibited outstanding professionalism. Our administration is appreciative of their ongoing commitment to public safety and the job they accomplish on a daily basis.
Previously, on October 4, security officials and the police helped evict a protest camp from the north lawn of the structure.
The decision to dismantle the camp was made by both the city and province due to what they call “aggressive” behaviour from camp occupants, along with escalating threats..

On Saturday, the province of Manitoba evicted an east encampment from the Manitoba legislature.
