Operations suspended at Toronto Billy Bishop Airport due to ‘suspicious package,’ police say

Following the discovery of a suspicious package at the airport’s ferry terminal, all activities at Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport have been put on hold, according to police.
In a tweet, Toronto police stated that they were looking into a “suspect item” in connection with an incident that occurred on Saturday about 3:49 p.m.
Police announced that the emergency disposal unit was en route to the spot after the area had been evacuated.
The Toronto Police Department stated that “all airport operations are currently being paused.”

Bathurst Street is closed from Bruyeres Mews to Lake Ontario, while Lake Shore Boulevard is closed between Strachan Avenue and Dan Leckie Way. From Dan Leckie Way to Stadium Road, Queens Quay is blocked off for active police activities.
On Saturday, there was also a planned emergency training exercise at the airport, but authorities told Global News that the two were unrelated.

Around 4 p.m., a device was reportedly found on a bike parked close to the island side of the ferry terminal, according to Billy Bishop Airport.
Police removed the device as of 6:45 p.m., but flights into and out of the airport were still suspended as they investigated.
The airport advised travellers to anticipate delays Saturday night.

The airport claimed there was no immediate threat to the security of patrons or employees despite the ferry terminal and tunnel being shut down “out of an abundance of caution.”
According to owner and operator Ports Toronto, Billy Bishop Airport serves over 20 cities in Canada and the United States and receives about 2. 8 million passengers annually. With files from Global News’ Irelyne Lavery.

Police say a “suspicious parcel” has caused operations at Toronto Billy Bishop Airport to be suspended.
