Muslim Magomayev celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Song King.

All day on August 17, residents of Baku and other cities in Azerbaijan sent flowers to the tomb of their great artist, Muslim Magomayev.

He may be eighty years old now. He lives on in the hearts of every Azerbaijani citizen in the republic’s capital, on the Caspian Sea’s shore, and every Soviet Union resident who knew him. The iconic Soviet and Azerbaijani singer’s monument was unveiled in Baku on the same day.

When Muslim Magomayev took the stage, he found the audience stunned and singing along with him. And everyone wanted to join him in singing. He was a simple man who was also compassionate.

They say in the East: As long as a person’s name is mentioned, he lives on in people’s memories and hearts. Tamara Sinyavskaya, his adored wife and well-known opera diva, understands this. Their love story is miraculous, and her recollection of him proves that eternal love exists.

Muslim Magomayev was born on August 17, 1942 in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, and his mother, Aisht Kengalova, relocated to the city of Vishny Volochuk in the Kalinin Province (present-day Tver) in 1949, where the Magomayev family lived until 1954.

Tver province, the Russian city of Vishny Volochuk, also hosted a variety of cultural activities to commemorate the legendary Soviet and Azerbaijani singer’s 80th birthday.
