Hungary is believed to support the membership of Sweden and Finland with NATO in mid -December

The head of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s office, “Gelaly Julias,” declared today, Saturday, that the government of Hungary supports Sweden and Finland’s membership in NATO and has already submitted paperwork to the national parliament to approve its decision.

The decision by Hungary to accept the extension of NATO to include the two northern countries (Sweden and Finland) will be ratified in the Hungarian Parliament by mid-December at the latest, according to press remarks quoted by “Politico” magazine in its European edition in Brussels.

In response to a journalist’s question about whether the joining of Finland and Sweden would already strengthen NATO ranks, Julias said he hoped, adding that it is possible to discuss whether the expansion is in the interest of the National Security of Hungary, but this is not related to the current situation.
Notably, Sweden and Finland have not yet been formally invited to join NATO; Hungary and Turkey are the only two nations to have done so.

SANA Marin, the prime minister of Finland, stated in a statement on last Thursday that she would not anticipate Hungary and Turkey joining NATO without Finland and Sweden’s membership, but she warned against the risks of postponing the joining process.

Hungary is rumoured to support Sweden and Finland joining NATO around the middle of December.
