News from Al-Madinah: Today, Saturday, thousands of Ethiopians participated in protests against foreign meddling in their country’s internal affairs.

Some protesters held up signs condemning the United States of disregarding international law and sovereignty.
According to Gantairer Abai, the deputy mayor of Addis Abeba, “we are keen to convince the world that we are constantly by his side and support the government’s call to our sovereignty.”
He added: “We oppose any threat or interference in the unity of Ethiopia, and we ask the interfering countries to refrain.

The protests were planned ahead of the anticipated start of peace negotiations between the warring parties in South Africa the following week.
The United States said on Friday that it supports the efforts of the African Union to mediate in talks to stop fighting in Tigray.

As the Ethiopian Federal Army took possession of this week’s major town of Shaer and the federal government declared its intention to take control of Tigray’s airports and institutions, diplomats raised worry over reports of civilian casualties in the area.
In Tigray, Eritrean forces are engaged in combat with Ethiopian federal forces.
US officials called on Eritrean forces to withdraw from Tigray and urged the parties to agree on an immediate ceasefire.
