American official: Security Council decision is an important step to help the Haiti people

The UN Security Council resolution is a crucial step in aiding the people of Haiti at this crucial moment, according to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

In a statement published on the White House website today, Sullivan added that the swift and unanimous vote to support the Security Council resolution to impose punitive measures and hold accountable individuals who undermine stability in Haiti reflects the commitment of the international community to address the issues that contribute to the country’s miserable human condition.

He emphasised that not only are individuals who participate in violence in Haiti being targeted by these measures, but also those who provide the funding for it.
He added that the United States is still committed to the support of the Haiti people, and we have recently delivered the security equipment bought by the Halet government, including tactical, armored vehicles and supplies, which will help the Hilate National Police fight against criminal elements.

The United States Agency for International Development is now alongside health workers in Haiti and NGOs to respond to cholera spread and care for those who need it.
He declared, “We will keep involving the international community in extra actions that we can take in the United Nations.”
