The Conservative Party is in disarray as a result of UK Prime Minister Liz Truss’ departure after only 45 days in office.
It demonstrates that Truss “didn’t have the backing and she had to resign,” according to UK political pundit Quentin Peel.
He told Breakfast the Conservative Party has been out of control since the Brexit referendum which “totally split the party and the country as well”.
Liz Truss appears to have been an even worse prime minister than Boris Johnson, who was somewhat of a disaster.
As the opposition pushes for a general election, Peel claimed that there is nothing in the rulebook to address the issue of having a party in power that has demonstrated its inability to choose its own leader. Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas, thus the Conservatives won’t participate in a general election because it appears that they would lose by a wide margin. I’m worried that the Conservative lawmakers in Congress right now resemble those turkeys.
” Peel said there was “a loss of trust” in the UK’s political process which he said went back as far as the Brexit referendum “which took the decision out of Parliament and gave it to the people”.
Prior to the Conservative Party choosing Boris Johnson as prime minister, he claimed that Parliament appeared “disastrously weakened.”
“After getting rid of him, they hastily elected Liz Truss, who gained control by appealing to the party’s more conservative inclinations. This time, she caused a split in the party.
So, the question is: Will they be driven into a general election or will they be able to select a leader to bring the party together?
Even though Peel admitted that Johnson was a “election winner” and that the alternatives all appear “pretty uninteresting” and are trailing in the polls, he suggested that a hypothetical comeback from him would be “a step too far.”
