Germany spends 6.5 billion dollars to build a million charging stations for electric cars

The German government has approved a plan to spend $6.3 billion over the following three years to rapidly increase the number of electric car shipping stations, as part of the efforts to reduce emissions by doubling the number of charging stations 14 times, or more than 70000 stations to become one million by year.

The government plans to use these funds to concentrate on installing shipping devices in small communities and underserved municipalities, but the overall objective is to increase the appeal of owning an electric vehicle. Federal Transport Minister Volcker Fising stated in a statement reported by Reuters that “our goal is to accelerate the expansion of the shipping infrastructure and simplify the shipping process, thereby facilitating the decision to purchase an electric vehicle.”

The government’s efforts will not be limited to financial assistance; instead, it will quicken the approval process for the construction of new shipping stations across Germany as it works to increase the number of electric vehicles on the country’s roads from the current 1.5 million vehicles to 15 million in the future.
Regarding the German government’s strategy, opinions varied.

The BDEW Energy and Water Association opposed the idea, arguing that it is expensive and strengthens the state’s control of this industry. On the other hand, the German automotive federation (VDA) believed that it represented a significant step towards an electrified future.

However, the plan holds great significance for the German government due to its outlook for the future, as Minister Vicenge stated: “We know that the transition to electric cars is accelerating quickly, so we have to move quickly, and we must provide benefits associated with the ownership of electric cars.

Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and BMW are just a few of the companies that have already begun to work on a fundamental shift towards electric vehicles in the German market. Tesla also recently joined the fray with the opening of its massive factory in Berlin, which helped the American brand spread and sold more than 25 thousand units between January and August of this year.

Germany invests 6.5 billion dollars to construct 1 million electric vehicle charging stations.
