Fire in Fort McMurray’s Timberlea area ‘being held’: RMWB

Officials said Thursday morning that a fire that started in a tree line near Fort McMurray on Tuesday is under control.
In the Timberlea neighbourhood, behind McKinlay Crescent and next to Morgan Heights Park, a wooded area is where the fire is currently raging. According to Alberta Wildfire, the fire’s size on Wednesday was 2.5 hectares.
According to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, workers have established a perimeter to safeguard surrounding residences (RMWB). Sprinkler systems are also employed to aid in containing the fire.

The municipality stated fire suppression efforts continued overnight in a Thursday morning report. On the west side, the firebreak was extended using a bulldozer.
Officials reported that the fire was being contained and that “a well-established perimeter (was) in place to protect all homes in the neighbourhood.” According to the municipality’s Thursday morning update at 10 a.m., there is no evacuation order in effect.
There is no immediate threat to the surrounding properties, according to the municipality. According to the RMWB, human activity ignited the fire.

Due to the wind blowing toward residential areas on Thursday, locals may anticipate more smoke in the area. All day long, ground fire suppression operations and helicopter and bucket operations will be carried out.
According to the town, “Please give personnel room to work, respect the directions of emergency officials, and keep out of the area if you do not live in the neighbourhood.”
