Over 4,500 Nova Scotia Power customers in the dark in large outage

This morning there is a significant outage that affects thousands of Nova Scotia Power customers and extends from Head of Chezzetcook and Musquodoboit Harbour to Little Harbour and Ship Harbour.
According to the utility, the outage, which affected 4,355 customers as of 7 a.m., started on Wednesday just before 10 p.m. and it is anticipated that power will be restored later this morning.
The outage, according to Nova Scotia Power, is the result of a “transmission interruption,” although the company was not immediately accessible for comment.

Due to the power loss, classes have been cancelled today at Eastern Shore District High, Gaetz Brook Junior High, and Oyster Pond Academy, according to the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
As of 7 a.m., a second, smaller outage to the northeast of that one is affecting an additional 228 customers in Frasers Mills and other communities.

The provincial government is making an effort to restrict the rate increases that Nova Scotia Power is currently requesting from the Nova Scotia Utilities and Review Board, which would boost rates by roughly 14% over the following two years.
Changes to the Public Utilities Act, according to Natural Resources Minister Tory Rushton, would bar the provincial regulator from allowing an increase based on the utility’s costs, with the exception of fuel expenditures and those that boost grid dependability.

A significant outage has left over 4,500 Nova Scotia Power customers in the dark.
