CEBL unveils newest franchise Calgary Surge

The Calgary Surge were unveiled as the Canadian Elite Basketball League’s newest franchise on Wednesday.
The team, formerly known as the Nighthawks and based in Guelph, Ontario, will begin playing games at WinSport Event Centre in the upcoming 2023 season.
Surge was selected as Calgary’s name as a result of an online grassroots effort.

The team’s colours will be red and black with touches of grey and white in an effort to uphold Calgary’s sports market legacy. The team’s emblem is a hawk.
At the press conference on Wednesday, Usman Tahir Jutt and Jason Ribeiro were also announced as the ownership team.
Guelph had the smallest market in the league and was moved as a part of the league’s business strategy to have teams in the largest cities across Canada..
