Lebanese Health: Cholera spread among the ranks of the displaced

The broad spread of cholera in Lebanon was declared by Firas Al-Abyad, Minister of Health in the caretaker government of Lebanon.
Al-Abyad said, stating that we have begun to notice an increase in cases among Lebanese citizens, that the majority of breakout cases are still among the Syrian refugees.

The Ministry of Public Health announced, in a report published on cholera cases in Lebanon, last Monday, the record of 46 new injuries in the past 48 hours, raising the cumulative number of installed cases to 89, and a new death was recorded that raised the cumulative number of deaths to 3 cases .
The United Nations, for its part, issued a warning earlier this month that the disease outbreak is becoming a threat.

More than a million Syrian refugees have sought safety in Lebanon since the conflict there began in 2011. The majority of Syrian refugees are impoverished, and because of Lebanon’s economic woes, their living conditions have gotten worse.
