A new Lebanese president could not be elected during the third session of the House of Representatives

In the third parliamentary session for the election of a new president of the Lebanese Republic in the House of Representatives session today, Representative Michel Moawad received 42 votes, while 55 deputies voted with a paper White and 22 deputies voted for other names and phrases, giving him the constitutional majority to win the presidency in the first round of the election.

The council’s president, Nabih Berri, opted to raise the session and schedule a fourth session for the following Monday as a result of a number of members leaving the council chamber shortly after the first round of voting ended.

Nabih Berri, the President of the Council, presided over the third election session of the President of the Republic, which had about 119 deputies in attendance. Before voting began, the President of the Council began reciting the constitutional articles pertaining to the election and powers of the President of the Republic.

According to the Lebanese constitution, the winner of the election is the person who receives a majority of 86 votes from the 128 members of the council in the first round of voting; if no candidate receives this number, a second round of voting is held, in which the winner receives 65 votes.

The third session of the House of Representatives did not allow for the election of a new president of Lebanon.
