Bulgarian deputies fail to elect a speaker of parliament

Today, on Wednesday, the deputies in Bulgaria failed to pick a new speaker for the parliament since none of the last five candidates received the necessary 121 out of 240 votes at the founding session of the legislature.
On Thursday, the voting is expected to continue.
The action follows the entry of seven parties by Parliament in a vote at the beginning of this month, which coincided with the fourth parliamentary election held in the previous 18 months.

In the most recent elections, Boyko Borisov’s right-wing Girb (Citizen for European Development) Party garnered the biggest proportion of votes, but fell far short of winning the majority.
The second-most powerful party in the nation and the candidate of the Central Movement were unable to secure the necessary majority.
However, neither of the two sides offered to end the deadlock by withdrawing his nominee.

The parliament speaker for Bulgaria is not chosen by the lawmakers.
