The Turkish President: Europe’s needs of gas can be secured through Turkey

During a meeting of the Justice and Development Party’s parliamentary bloc today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested that the European Union will be able to secure its gas needs through Turkey.
According to the Turkish president, Europe is experiencing a gas shortage and is searching for sources to meet its demands this winter. In Turkey, there is no gas shortage and no such issue.

“Turkey will become an international hub for the distribution of gas, and recently, Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, and I discussed this. We suggested that Turkey might be a hub for gas coming from Russia and to secure gas to Europe via Turkey.

In a speech last week at the plenary session of the “Russian Energy Week” forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that by constructing a “gas centre,” Russia could pump the amounts of gas that Europe lost due to the damage of the “Northern Seal” tubes to European countries via Turkey. He claims that this solution is both economically feasible and highly secure.
