News from Al-Madinah: Late on Tuesday night, North Korea fired 250 artillery shells along its eastern and western shores after Seoul started its yearly defence drills to better prepare for Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile threats.
According to Reuters, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the South Korean Army said in a statement on Wednesday that North Korea had shot roughly 100 rounds at sea off its western coast at around 10:00 local time (1300 GMT) and another 150 shells off its eastern coast.
After firing hundreds of artillery shells on Tuesday between 9:55 am and 5:22 pm local time, North Korea later claimed that the projectiles were intended to convey a “severe warning” to Seoul.
The war drills in the north are proceeding in a frantic manner, according to the Korean People’s Army General Staff.
