Phoenix’s Sasse has ban reduced for ‘serious foul play’

Wellington Yan Sasse, a playmaker for the Phoenix Suns, successfully reduced his three-game A-League Men penalty to two games.
Last Thursday, the match review panel handed down a three-match punishment to the Brazilian for engaging in “severe foul play” during Wellington’s season-opening match against Adelaide United on October 9.

The quickest debutant to be sent off in Australian national league history, Sasse was only on the field for 25 minutes before getting the boot for what referees deemed a careless lunge on Adelaide’s Javi Lopez.
The independent panel determined that the event was significant enough to call for an additional two weeks even though the minimum punishment for serious foul play is one match.

The Phoenix appealed the additional two-week punishment over and above the one-game suspension to Football Australia’s disciplinary and ethics committee.
The committee met on Tuesday night and reduced the suspension to two weeks.
Sasse missed the weekend’s draw with Central Coast and will serve the second match of his ban this Saturday against Newcastle.
He will be available for the Phoenix’s match against Melbourne City next Sunday..

Phoenix’s Sasse had his suspension for “severe foul play” lowered.
