When Real Madrid hosts Elche on Wednesday in the league, coach Carlo Ancelotti urged squad member Karim Benzema to begin his attempts to win the Golden Ball award for the second consecutive season.
The French striker Benzema won the Golden Ball on Monday, beating off Sadio Mane and Kevin de Bruyne, who were in second and third, respectively.
Because of his role in helping Real Madrid win the Spanish League and the Champions League last season, Benzema was the most well-known candidate for the honour.
