Ethiopia intends to control airports in Tigray after clashes

News from Al-Madinah: The airports and other infrastructure in the Tigray region will come under “immediate” supervision of the Ethiopian government.
According to the “Associated Press” news agency, the federal forces and its allies are currently engaged in violent skirmishes with members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigray in the country’s northern province.

In order to “accelerate the arrival of humanitarian aid to the needy,” the Ethiopian Communications Department declared in a statement that the Ethiopian government must immediately assume control of all other federal airports and facilities in Tigray.
Prior to the subsequent round of confrontations and conflicts between the two parties to the dispute in Tigray on August 24, the statement accused “hostile” foreign forces of violating the nation’s airspace.

The announcement gave no additional information regarding how the government intended to manage the facilities or the names of people who were allegedly infringing on Ethiopian airspace.
Officials in the rebel-controlled Tigray region of Ethiopia said on Monday that they are prepared to heed the African Union’s demands to immediately halt hostilities.

While violence continues to rise in the beleaguered region, the African Union on Sunday urged the parties to the conflict in the Tigray region to “engage again” in peace talks.
According to the “Associated Press” news agency, these talks had been set to begin in South Africa in October but were postponed “for practical concerns.”
The fighting between the Tigray forces and the federal forces was resumed last August, which led to the end of the ongoing ceasefire since last March.

Since November 4, 2021, in Tigrai, clashes have been renewed between the Federal Army and the Popular Front for Tigray Liberation for the purpose of imposing control.
