Riyadh: We continue to support international efforts to bring peace in Yemen

The Saudi Council of Ministers reiterated on Tuesday what the Kingdom had said during a Security Council meeting on Yemen, including its continued support of international efforts to bring peace to the country and its call for the boycott and drying up of the Houthi militia’s funding sources.

This came during a session of the Council headed by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, at Al Salam Palace in Jeddah, according to the Saudi Press Agency “SPA”.
It is interesting that Ambassador Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasl of Saudi Arabia, who represents his country at the UN, stated last Thursday that the Houthis should no longer be considered a terrorist organisation.

It was also stated that the Houthi militia prevented the ceasefire and is still laying siege to Yemeni cities.
Last Monday, UN representative to Yemen Hans Grendberg voiced sadness about the failure to extend the cease-fire, highlighting the significant risks involved.
This came after international endeavors failed to extend the previous international truce that ended on October 2.

It is notable that the Yemeni sides decided to prolong the truce for two more months under the same conditions, from August 2 to October 2, 2022, as the UN declared on August 2.

This prolongation followed a prior international ceasefire on all fronts of the conflict in Yemen that went into effect in April (2022) for a length of time. It is the provinces’ responsibility to increase people’s freedom of movement inside Yemen, facilitate the admission of 18 fuel-carrying ships into Hodeidah’s ports in western Yemen during the next two months, and permit two weekly flights to and from Sanaa International Airport.

However, the Houthi militia interfered last week, forcing a third extension of the cease-fire and creating intolerable circumstances.
