The death toll following the crash of a “Su-34” warplane in a residential area of the city of Yesk in the country’s south has been put at 15, including 3 children, while 23 have been injured, according to the Russian Ministry of Emergency.
In a press release that was cited by the news outlet “Russia Today,” the ministry acknowledged the conclusion of the rescue effort and the evacuation of more than 360 persons from the building where the fire started as a result of the incident.
The ministry identified the plane’s pilots as Najat after they managed to jump from the aircraft using umbrellas, and they stated that the aircraft crashed when one of its engines ignited during takeoff while performing training exercises.
The three-day period of mourning for the victims’ lives was announced by the city’s administration.
