Indian Embassy in Cairo: Egypt has the potential to play a decisive role in global issues.

The Indian Embassy in Cairo confirmed that Egypt’s hosting of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-27) in Sharm El-Sheikh demonstrates the country’s willingness and ability to play a critical role in global issues.

In a report distributed today, Thursday, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the embassy announced that a large Indian delegation will participate in the climate conference, and India will work closely to ensure the success of this conference.

She stated that Egypt and India are among the world’s oldest civilizations, with close ties dating back several centuries; where the decrees of Emperor Ashoka in India refer to his relationship with Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy II.

According to the embassy, in the modern era, Mahatma Gandhi and leader Saad Zagloul shared common goals for their countries’ independence, which resulted in the formation of a close and exceptional friendship between President Gamal Abdel Nasser and Prime Minister Nehru, which resulted in the signing of a friendship treaty between the two countries in 1955 and the establishment of the Movement Non-Aligned.

According to the Indian Embassy, continuous political interaction at the highest levels has resulted in the strengthening of relations between the two countries; President Abdel Fattah el-visits Sisi’s to India in October 2015 and September 2016 added impetus to the brotherly and friendly relations with Egypt.

The embassy mentioned Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s 2015 visit to Egypt, as well as Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry’s 2018 visit to India, as well as several other ministerial visits between the two countries.

The embassy reviewed phone calls between President Sisi and Prime Minister Modi during the Corona Covid-19 pandemic, during which they expressed solidarity in fighting the epidemic through mutual cooperation.

Egypt purchased 50,000 doses of the Made in India Covid-19 vaccine, while India purchased 300,000 doses of remdesivir to combat the second wave of Covid in India in May 2021, and Egypt also sent three planes carrying medical aid to India in May 2021, which helped save many lives.

According to the report, political, economic, and cultural relations will grow significantly in the near future. This helps to strengthen our two countries’ ancient bilateral relations, which date back thousands of years.

According to the report, bilateral trade volume increased by 75 between 2021 and 2022, reaching an all-time high of $7.26 billion in the first two months of this fiscal year.

According to the report, Indian companies operating in Egypt are investing an additional $700 million, and many Indian companies have expressed interest in the green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in Egypt, including a recent memorandum of understanding signed by Renew-Power to invest $8 billion.

According to the embassy, over ten trade delegations comprised of approximately 300 Indian companies visited Egypt in the last year to participate in trade fairs and hold trade talks.

The embassy also activated institutional mechanisms by hosting the fifth session of the Indo-Egyptian Joint Trade Committee meetings and the fifth session of the Joint Business Council in July 2022 to discuss aspects of bilateral cooperation and strengthen the two countries’ partnership.

According to the report, after breaking free from colonialism, India and Egypt laid the groundwork for a close political understanding based on a long history of communication and cooperation on bilateral, regional, and global issues. They worked closely together in multilateral forums and were founders of the Non-Aligned Movement. In multilateral fora, India represents the aspirations of developing countries and actively pursues reforms at the United Nations and other international organisations.

Egypt and India are making strides toward achieving their citizens’ aspirations and achieving their rightful place among the nations.
