Yemeni Leadership Council: The Houthis thwarted the people’s hopes of truce

Rashad Al-Alimi, the president of the Yemeni Presidential Command Council, emphasised that the Houthi militia “thwarted the people’s hopes of achieving peace and stability, continuing and expanding the truce, and spent the salaries of the oppressed in the areas under its control on repression and looting” after the extension of the armistice in Yemen stalled despite the efforts of the international community.

Al-Alimi made reference to the need for peace and security in his nation in a tweet posted on his Twitter account today, Tuesday, and he emphasised that the Presidential Council and the government would strive “tirelessly to answer the requirements of the Yemenis.”
He further emphasised that despite all the obstacles to legitimacy, the council and the government will work together to meet the needs of the Yemeni people in accordance with their stated commitments.

Last Monday, UN representative to Yemen Hans Grendberg voiced sadness about the failure to extend the cease-fire, highlighting the significant risks involved.
This happened after international efforts to extend the previous global ceasefire, which concluded on October 2, were unsuccessful.
The United Nations announced on August 2 that the Yemeni parties agreed to extend the truce for two additional months according to the same conditions from August 2 to October 2, 2022.

This prolongation followed a prior international ceasefire on all fronts of the conflict in Yemen that went into effect in April (2022) for a length of time. It is the provinces’ responsibility to increase people’s freedom of movement inside Yemen, facilitate the admission of 18 fuel-carrying ships into Hodeidah’s ports in western Yemen during the next two months, and permit two weekly flights to and from Sanaa International Airport.

However, the Houthi militia interfered last week, forcing a third extension of the cease-fire and creating intolerable circumstances.
