Bloomberg: The European Union will be reluctant to impose a ceiling on the price of gas

“Despite political squabbles and worries over supply security, the European Union will not set a cap on gas prices delivered to member states.
According to a draft document seen by the “Bloomberg” agency, the European Commission is planning today to propose measures to avoid high prices and the use of the European Union’s joint purchasing power as a tool in negotiations with international gas suppliers.

According to the agency, “The European Union offers a new emergency package to address the energy crisis and bets on measures to enhance solidarity between member states, but the bloc (the European Union) will refrain from imposing a ceiling on gas prices due to political differences and worries about the security of the offer.

“The European Commission plans to introduce a new liquefied natural gas index, which it hopes will “better reflect the realities of energy in the region after the stoppage of gas supplies through pipelines from Russia,” the spokeswoman continued.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that his country would not export its resources if doing so would be against its own interests. The West has proposed capping the price of Russian energy resources.
