The fall in Saudi and Emirati equities on Thursday, as well as the increase in Kuwait Stock Exchange indexes
Amin Salam, the Minister of Economy in Lebanon’s caretaker administration, said that the country’s existing wheat stockpile is only enough for three weeks.

Salam said in a statement that he had taken a ministerial decision to demolish the northern part of the Al-Ahraat and consolidate the southern part, citing the fact that if the war breaks out and the ports close, the Lebanese people will starve, and the existing wheat stock is only enough for three weeks.

He emphasised that he is in constant contact with all sectors, particularly importers of basic commodities and foodstuffs, noting that the Ministry of Economy has fundamental duties in the coming stage, particularly in light of the tendency to approve the customs dollar, which does not affect all food commodities and basic materials.

He stated that he was in favour of a gradual increase in the customs dollar due to the negative consequences of a sudden increase, explaining that the customs dollar is the prerogative of the Ministry of Finance and the Banque du Liban, and the decision will be made between the caretaker government’s Minister of Finance, Youssef Al-Khalil, and the governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh.
