UK couple sell old coins found during kitchen reno for $1.5m

When a UK couple made the decision to remodel the kitchen in their Ellerby, East Yorkshire home, they struck gold.
2019 saw the discovery of an astonishing cache of more than 260 gold coins hidden beneath the kitchen floorboards of the house.
According to the BBC, the coins, which were discovered in a pot, were from a Hull family involved in Baltic shipping and were dated from 1610 to 1727.
The coins were recently sold at auction for NZ$1 after the story went viral.

5 million, a substantial amount above their $400,00 projected value.
Spink and Son auctioneer Gregory Edmund told the BBC, “Imagine the scene: you’re selecting to re-lay your uneven kitchen floor, you poke a pick-axe through the concrete and just beneath you find a tiny sliver of gold.”
“At the time, you assume it must be simply a small piece of electrical cable, but you discover it is a gold round disc with hundreds more beneath it.
“I’ll never see an auction like this again,” the auctioneer concluded.
