According to local authorities, sixteen people were murdered and 27 others were missing in a river flood in northwest China on Thursday.
In a hilly part of China’s huge Qinghai province, which borders Tibet, the water level unexpectedly increased (west).
The local emergency agency stated in a statement that search and rescue activities were underway, but no further information was offered. Rescuers were sent to Zhenyin City’s Datong District, some 1,300 kilometres west of Beijing.

In late spring and early summer, heavy rains are prevalent in the country’s centre and south. This year, though, China will see harsh weather.
On Saturday, a flash flood in the country’s southwest killed four people and wounded nine more.
Temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius have also increased significantly this summer in a lot of provinces, including Sichuan (southwest).

This week, the province resorted to energy rationing due to the load on the network generated by air conditioners, and hydroelectric dams are straining to satisfy demand due to river weakness induced by the hot wave.
