An American official warns of famine in Africa due to the Ukraine war

The Russian-Ukrainian conflict, according to US State Department Undersecretary for Political Affairs Victoria Noland, could cause a devastating famine in Africa.
“The actions taken by Russia aggravate the problems with food security, which will result in a scarcity of food and high prices, endangering millions of Africans at risk of worsening famine.

According to a statement released by the US embassy in Mauritania, the US official met with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Sheikh Al-Ghazwani and his top advisers and reviewed political and security goals in bilateral relations between the United States of America and Mauritania.
American diplomacy at the highest level praised Mauritania’s contribution to regional security and counterterrorism.

She emphasised that “for more than a decade, Mauritania has been an oasis of stability in the Sahel region.
She added that “the decisive role it plays in enhancing regional security in the Sahel region helps in combating violent extremism. ” She also emphasized that the United States appreciates the “Mauritanian leadership, especially hosted by the Executive Secretariat of the Group of Five Coast Group and the group’s defense, and we look forward to our continued security cooperation,” as she put it.

“Mauritania harbours more than 80,000 financial refugees who had to flee war and persecution,” the Undersecretary of the State Department stated.
