The Iraqi parliament chose Abdul Latif Rashid, 78, the settlement candidate, as president of the republic on Thursday, ending a year of political stalemate.
In his speech, Monday, during a ceremony he received his position at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, Rashid said: “We put our eyes what the dear Iraqi people await from the new government, which we hope will be quickly, strong, efficient and unified to meet the people’s ambitions in security, stability and services.

138 of the 329 members of the Iraqi parliament make up the majority of the legislative body.
His assignment occurs in 2021, one year following the early-October elections.
Muqtada al-Sadr, the chief opponent of the framework, the chest leader, declared that his current will not take part in the following administration.
The nomination of Muhammad Shi’a Al-Sudani to the coordinating framework in the summer served as a catalyst for conflict to develop between the framework and the chest current, whose followers were detained in front of Parliament for nearly a month in the summer.
The unrest peaked on August 29 when 30 of its followers were slain after skirmishes inside the Green Zone with army forces and members of the general populace.
Rashid furthered that he would work to “bring political forces closer and care for their discussions to achieve this goal” in his speech on Monday.
In order to further shared interests, he promised to work to “create solid connections between Iraq, the neighbouring nations, and the international community.”
