In a fresh operation to exchange detainees with Russia, the Ukrainian government announced the release of 108 women, the majority of them are soldiers, according to a Ukrainian presidency adviser.
“A significant new exchange for prisoners of war took place today. It is a truly influential and distinctive exchange: We have freed 108 women from families,” Andrei Yermak wrote on Telegram.
In turn, the leader of the separatists loyal to Russia in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, Dennis Bousselene, confirmed the exchange of prisoners and said that among the 110 people included in the agreement, two decided to stay in Russia.
Mothers and daughters were detained together among the pertinent women, according to Yermak, who also reported that 37 of them turned themselves in at the Mariopol-based Azovstal steel factory.
Numerous women were seen exiting white buses in the images released by Yermak, some of whom were wearing the coats and military outsiders.
