The book “In Gabo and Mercedes Farewell, the memoirs of Gabriel and Mercedes” was translated into Arabic by Ahmed Shafei after being narrated by the couple’s son “Rodrigo” at the Harf House.
In this book, Gabriel Garcia Marquis, the best-selling author and son of one of the finest writers in Nobel Prize-winning history, honours his parents with tender notes about love and loss.

But how did the notion to compose these notes come about? One of the most well-known authors of the 20th century, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, had a cold-related injury in March 2014, and his wife of more than 50 years, Mercedes Barsha, was not hopeful; Her husband, known as “Gabo”, was 87 years old and struggled with dementia and told their son Rodrigo: “I don’t think we will leave here.

Does this signal the beginning of the end, Rodrigo inquired upon hearing his mother’s words? He began writing the account of Garcia Marquez’s recent days in order to comprehend the facts as they came to light. The outcome is this frank and honest book that not only discusses his father’s passing but also demonstrates his beautiful humanity.
The book presents illuminated notes and a tragic reportage work that transforms Gabo and Mercedes’s farewell.

His permanent partner, Mercedes, stayed with an attractive personality and was one of the most significant effects on Gabo’s life and work throughout his last voyage. He struggled with what he will lose and what he has already lost from others in his orbit.
Naturally, the enormous legacy left by Rodrigo’s parents is honoured in the book, which also provides a rare glimpse into Jabriel Garcia Marquise’s intimate family life.
